Chapter 2. Edit default template

You can edit the default template either manually (i.e. typing values into functions ) or automatically through the Default template options dialog.
To access this dialog, go to: Template menu > Edit default template.

A. First, let's edit the default template manually.

Our idea here is to create a Web page exploring the reasons for using SVERDYSH-HTML Editor.
Place cursor between title tags and enter from keyboard the title of your Web page: "Reasons to use SVERDYSH-HTML Editor".
This title will appear on the title bar of the browser during testing.
Now fill in the keywords, by which this website will be searched on the Internet, dividing them by commas: "html, css, editor, tags, web, design ".
Enter description: "Effective British html and css editor ".
For the background color (BGCOLOR) enter "yellow".
For the text color (TEXT) enter "red".
For the background image enter "backgrounds/bg16.jpg" meaning that this image is in the program's folder called "backgrounds".
Enter hyperlink colors: "red" (LINK), "brown" (ALINK), "blue" (VLINK).
Note: instead of the color names you can enter their hex codes which are available from: Color menu > Complete color list.
Enter "30" for top margin.
Enter "50" for left margin.
Enter the following text into the body area:
" SVERDYSH-HTML releases your creativity, doing for you the technical aspect of the Web-design project. It does coding, and you do design!". Set the font size to "3", and make it bold using Font menu.
Break the lines, using the BR button.
Make this text a hyperlink by linking it to website, using Hyperlink menu.
That's how the editing area looks after you have entered all of these (for convenience, long lines were broken):

Press the Test button, to view the result in browser.
As you see, the uncklicked hyperlink is red.
Note: here you can see the background image, but can't see yellow background color which you have entered because background image takes precedence over background color.

Now click on the text - to make sure that the hyperlink became brown (clicked hyperlink):

After visiting the website, the hyperlink became blue:

Before finishing the subject of manual editing, it is worth mentioning that colors could be entered in a more advanced way by using Color options dialog, which is available at clicking the color button (at the top, on the utmost right) or go to Colors menu > Color options. To use it, place cursor into a place where you want to enter color, then press the Color button, calling the dialog. In the dialog, click on the arrow to open the list of colors, then click on the color that you need and then press the Apply button. The color name will appear next to cursor.

In this dialog, you are not limited by the quantity of colors on the list! You can enter any other color (or hex code) into the textbox, and then this will be inserted.
In the dialog, the button Color preview allows you to see how colors on the list look like.
And the button Complete color list will give you a very long list of colors with their hex numbers for reference. If you need, any of them, just copy from the list by right-clicking and selecting and then paste into the necessary place in the code.
Press the N (New) button to refresh the default template deleting all the values entered by us.

And still there is even better way of entering colors!

Yes, the best manner of entering colors is with the help of SVERDYSH Color Picker v7.0.
First, you should download SVERDYSH Color Picker v7.0, freeware.
The program is free for commercial use, selling, and installation on any number of computers.
Available for downloading from

Double-click SVERDYSH Color Picker v7.0 shortcut on the desktop of your computer to open the program.
The interface of the program appears, which is a classical color palette.
Select a color from the palette by clicking on this color.
Press OK button to finalise.
The color hex value will be send to clipboard.
To retrieve the hex color value, just Paste it to the required place in your HTML tag.
For example (after pasting a custom color):

NB: Hex value is a string specifying the proportion of red, green, and
blue in hexadecimal digits - for example: #46fbfb (which represents a variety of cyan color).

That's it for manual color editing!

B. How to edit the default template automatically:

For automatic (more advanced) editing the default template you can use Default template options dialog available from:
Template menu > Edit default template > Default template options.

The speed is insured by the fact that you have an opportunity to enter all of the colors just selecting them from the dropping lists provided (but you stiull have an option of entering individual colors or hex codes into textboxes manually).
So, start filling in the dialog from the top, clicking the arrows to select colors from the lists.
Let's enter the same values which we entered manually.
The result will be as follows:

Now press the Apply button to make things happen.
The editing area becomes looking like this:

Press the Test button to see the result in browser.

So, the mission of the Default template options dialog is accomplished!
Now let us put cursor into the body area of the editor and enter the same text which we entered manually, and let's format this text in the same manner.

Press the Test button to see the result in browser. It is absolutely the same as the one we achieved using manual method!

Note: under the automatic method, please first do automatic work using the dialog, and only after that enter text into the body area of the editor (that's the way we have done just now!)
If you do this in the opposite order (first text - and then automatic editing of the default template), the text will be deleted without warning.
